Welcome to the 2018 School Year!!!

Students attempted to save Fred today, a not so bright worm that decided to swim without a lifejacket on and his boat capsized. Students had to get Fred's (gummy worm) lifesaver on him and back in his boat. The kicker was they could only use paperclips to touch everything!  We only said goodbye to one Fred :)

We did a classroom library scavenger hunt to get to know our classroom library and be on the lookout for our first read of the year!

We also talked about how reading is like a bowl of chex mix. Just one ingredient doesn't make chex mix, just like only reading the words doesn't make reading. When we read, we use so many different strategies, it ends up looking like a bowl of chex mix.
Of course we had to make chex mix and munch while we read!

Students played an online game to get to know Mrs. Mentink!  I think it's safe to say I surprised a few with my answers.

While the 5th were away learning about safety patrol, 4th grade learned a few math games they will use this year to strengthen their multiplication fluency.
