We reviewed today that reading is far more than just reading the words- more importantly it's thinking!  

A salad with just lettuce is not a salad- it's lettuce. Add the yummy toppings and dressing and now you've got yourself a delicious salad.  
A reader just reading the word is not a reader. Add the thinking (predictions, questions, summarizing, connections, picturing, evaluating, the list goes on) and now you've got a smart reader. 

Today, I modeled this thinking by making a chex mix. 

Each food item demonstrating a different type of thinking. 

Of course we enjoyed it while we did our REAL reading afterwards.
