What a better way to start the week than with tasty donuts. A great turnout for the 40 book challenge! I'm excited to say everyone is on board and SO many are already flying through books and filling out their follow up sheets.
We were praised in Monday Morning Kickoff this week! First, congrats to my five current 5th graders who completed my summer challenge. They got to stand up and be recognized.
Next, we were put on the spotlight for our fun book tasting we did a few weeks ago and our drive to spread our wings with new genres this year!
The fire department came this week and did the Survive Alive house for the 5th graders. It was my first time in it too!! Very important info. (Sorry I only have pictures of half the group). Hopefully your child came home and talked about your family's safe place to meet in the event of a real fire!
Mrs. Carnes and I team taught a lesson on reading identities. We had the students explored books they have enjoyed or have not that have made them into the readers (or non readers) they are today. From this lesson, we set reading goals for the next few weeks.
We created little movies on a website called Powtoons that we've been sharing throughout the last 2 weeks. Here is Aydan and Halden sharing.
We've been learning activities we will play in math and during I/E. Yesterday was Yahtzee. Students paired up and played the mind challenging game.
Glad to hear everyone signed up for the 40 book challenge!! So many fun things going on!!
